How We Said Goodbye

No words were exchanged.
There was no fight,
No punches thrown
Or “fuckin’ bastard”s shouted.
It all just stopped,
Though not without warning.
I can’t say I understand
The distance between us,
Or why it feels like a break up,
When we weren’t intimately involved,
Even with other people.
Our goodbyes were spoken
In mute voices
On deaf ears
And still neither of us
Has really found a way
To make sense of it all.
This is our unhappy ending.
