I’ve Been Waiting

I’ve been waiting for a long time for this,
Whatever this is,
This thing I’ve been pencilling in each week,
Our little appointment,
Missed for months,
Too close to going on a year.
I’ve been waiting and checking in
For whatever this is,
This ‘relationship’,
And these plans, always the same,
That haven’t been made.
I’ve been waiting too long
To really believe anymore
That you care about this thing,
Whatever it is,
That’s been going on for years.
I’ve been waiting too long,
And putting off too much,
As I pencil you in,
A slot each week,
Clinging on, just in case.
